![]() Unedited photo to show size and color differences between Aura One & Aura.Īnd this is exactly what I mean when I say if the Aura and Aura One were combined, they’d be the perfect eReaders. This is something I wish the Aura, and hell the Kindle Paperwhite, had. Think of it as like the iPhone’s Night Shift feature, but for your eBook. It filters the blue light out of the screen, giving it a reddish tint, so it helps you with eye strain and falling asleep when you’re reading at night. The only true difference, other than size, comes down to one feature I’m absolutely in love with: the Aura One comes with something they call ComfortLight PRO. The screens on both devices are gorgeous and easy to read in the dark or in direct sunlight. SCREENS Ambient light sensor usually gets it right. Both are plenty, and both have batteries that last up to a month on a single charge. The Aura has 4gb of storage, and the Aura One has 8gb of storage. Yeah, take it in the bath with you, put on some music, and drown out the screaming kids in the living room while your significant other deals with it for a while. Same micro-USB port, just, you know - waterproof. The main difference is in what the screens can do, plus the Aura One is waterproof. The Kobo Aura One is the bigger sister to Aura, and it looks almost exactly like it - except it has a 7.8in HD display and touch screen. On the front is a 6in HD e-ink display and touch screen. On the bottom is the micro-USB port for charging and some basic device information. It has a textured plastic back with an easy-to-find power button located on the upper right of the backside of the device (if the screen is facing you). Let’s start with the design of the Kobo Aura (Edition 2), which is the smaller of the two devices, and the most comparable to the Amazon’s Kindle. I decided to combine these reviews because these two Kobo devices both have upsides and downsides - and if you combined the two, they would be one killer device that would give the Kindle a run (more on this later). ![]() It’s a review of the biggest competitors Kindle has: the Kobo Aura & Aura One. ![]() I still liked it (except for that one sewer part, which I’m sure you all know about by now), but this isn’t a book review. So I own a Kindle Paperwhite and got 5-10 minutes of reading done at night. That’s a 1000+ page book that would have been impossible to lug around in addition to all that other stuff. I just finished reading Stephen King’s IT for the first time. Why don’t I read hard copies anymore? Because I have to carry so many other things, including by not limited to: toy trains, diapers, water cups, snacks, dry clothes, and more. ![]() ![]() The SureCall Fusion4Home cell phone booster for rural areas comes at the 1st position of this list since this is one of the best options for those who are new to cell phone boosters. Diggs' agent, Adisa Bakari, told ESPN's Adam Schefter that his client would be on hand "for the entirety of the minicamp." The team later clarified that Diggs was at the team facility both Monday and Tuesday but left prior to Tuesday's practice. Murphy ranked 10th among 3-4 outside linebackers in 2016 with an 11.8 pass-rushing productivity rating, and he ranked 11th with 55 total pressures Jerry Hughes - Buffalo’s most productive pass-rusher of late - has averaged 47.5 pressures over the past two seasons. The Buffalo Bills, loaded with a talented roster looking to break through to the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance in nearly 30 years, had a key piece missing Tuesday from their mandatory minicamp practice.īills head coach Sean McDermott said wide receiver Stefon Diggs was not present, with the coach saying he was "very concerned" about it. The Bills are hoping that Trent Murphy - who still hasn’t been fully cleared after tearing his ACL last August - can bring some life to the pass rush after signing him away from Washington this offseason. Vontae Davis, who was released by the Colts midseason, was just ahead of him with a 45.2 grade, his second consecutive season in the 40s.īy the numbers: Buffalo’s defense ranked last in the NFL in 2017, generating pressure on just 29 percent of opponents’ passing plays. Phillip Gaines ranked 119th last season with a 35.9 grade, which was actually a slight improvement over the 34.8 he posted in 2016. White ranked second among all cornerbacks with a 92.0 grade and led the position with 1,093 defensive snaps, finishing 14 of 17 games (including the playoffs) with a grade of at least 70.0.īiggest weakness: The Bills have a handful of issues on their roster, but their biggest is with the cornerbacks after White. PFF also reflected on their grades by naming each team’s biggest strength, biggest weakness, and added a section named “by the numbers.” Here’s how PFF further explain their grades for Buffalo:īiggest strength: Tre’Davious White is one of the league’s best young cornerbacks, and he took home our Rookie of the Year award in 2017. As mentioned, the Bills still have position battles to play out and projected starters on the list, such as quarterback AJ McCarron and center Russell Bodine, may not be the team’s opening day starters. On offense, PFF’s average grade totaled to a 61.7. ![]() Of note, Edmunds did not receive a grade since he’s projected to be a starter as a rookie, and Murphy did not receive a grade after missing the entire 2017 season with an ACL injury. In PFF’s grades, Buffalo’s defense carried the load as their projected starting lineup landed an average grade of 70.1. Pro Football Focus recently graded each NFL roster for ESPN, and the Bills landed right in the middle of the pack at No. ![]() Position battles still have to sort themselves out in training camp, but aside from running back LeSean McCoy, Buffalo’s bigger issues are on offense. The team drafted linebacker Tremaine Edmunds after signing Trent Murphy and Star Lotulelei to beef up the defensive front. If there were any holes on Buffalo’s defense, they were in the front-seven, and the Bills’ front office addressed those holes in the offseason. Apparently, the photo was used before gaining permission from this girl, and a search for her turned up fruitless. Its initial cover art featured a photo of a very young Rivers Cuomo with a female friend. "Buddy Holly" was the second single released from The Blue Album. Rivers Cuomo has said that "Buddy Holly" is his favorite song to perform live. Beginning in late 2000, an extended guitar intro was added, and continued to be performed through 2005. "Buddy Holly" is the most oft-performed song in the Weezer catalog. Rivers Cuomo, Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo, liner notes It isn't 'til we hear a song back on tape that we realize, "hey, that's a little dirgy." I've always like big, fat, heavy guitar sounds and when I write a song with a sound like that I end up digging in and playing real slow. Obviously, this track is kind of slow compared to how it ended up on the Weezer record. In this case, though, it didn't seem like a big deal. ![]() I rarely wrote lyrics about tension between me and the guys in the band because I thought it would be awkward for us all to perform those songs together. The life-situation that inspired the lyric was an incident in which the Weezer guys were making fun of my friend Kyung He (also in the Santa Monica College Choir). An early version read, "ooo-we-ooo you look just like Ginger Rogers. The melody was in time to my steps: "ooo-we-ooo I look just like Buddy Holly." The lyrics I struggled with, trying to find the right reference point. The chorus melody, though, I came up with as I was walking through the lawns of the campus. Inspired by its goofy synth sounds, I decided to write some new-wave influenced songs. I was in the Santa Monica College Choir and I met a kid named Steve Graff who lent me his Korg Keyboard. In the liner notes for Alone, Cuomo explained how he was inspired to write the song after a friend from his choir lent him a Korg keyboard: Originally written in June of 1993, the demo for the song, released on Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo, features a slower tempo. "Buddy Holly" is one the most-well known Weezer songs. Happy Record Store Day! (live at the NYC Hard Rock) (2010)

It makes a huge difference because fresh bread soaks up too much egg mixture – even if you dunk it in really quickly – and you’ll end up with french toast that is soggy on the inside. ![]() I really do recommend using stale bread where possible for french toast – any french toast. The key to french toast sticks that are stiff enough to pick up without flopping is to use stale bread and to use a block loaf you can cut yourself into thick slices (the thicker the sticks, the less they flop). This is the way I like my french toast sticks, but if you don’t have a stale block loaf, it still tastes just as delicious using pre-sliced sandwich bread, it will just sag a bit when you pick it up. However, the little research that has examined AM’s effects on CT has revealed beneficial effects (Alvarez-Ortiz, 2007 Butchart et al., 2009 Dwyer, Hogan & Stewart, 2011 Dwyer, Hogan & Stewart, 2012 van Gelder, 2001 van Gelder, Bissett & Cumming, 2004). ![]() Perhaps as a result of the relatively recent advancements in AM software, little research has been conducted to test its effects on learning. With the advent of various user-friendly AM software programs, the time required to construct an AM has been substantially reduced. In this context, concept mapping strategies may not necessarily be useful pedagogical aids that are open to analysis by everyone.Īlthough AMs have been in existence for almost 200 years (Buckingham-Shum, 2003 see Whately, 1826), their construction was a slow, tedious task completed through pen and paper and thus, not widely used as a learning tool, despite potential advantages over standard prose as a medium for presenting reasoning. Neither sentences nor any inferential structures to facilitate comprehension are requisite. In addition, if the reader of a concept map is not familiar with the information from the text that the map is derived, then the map itself becomes meaningless. Chandler & Sweller, 1991 Pollock, Chandler & Sweller, 2002 Tindall-Ford, Chandler & Sweller, 1997). Thus, because the text of the argument and the diagram may often be separate entities, concept mapping may become more cognitively demanding by adding the necessity of switching attention from text to diagram and vice versa (e.g. Instead, they present a graphical structure that acts as a representation of a separate text, which might be used to diagram: the links among concepts, decision-making schemes, a set of plans or instructions, or at best, act as an argument overview – which does not represent the argument in full. The problem with many concept mapping techniques is that they do not present an argument per se. Notably, though other forms of argument diagramming exist, such as concept mapping and mind-mapping, they differ substantially from AM based on the manner in which they are organized and the way in which each ‘proposition’ is presented. Given these observed benefits, I think it worthwhile to share a little bit about AM here and the rationale for why it works, especially for those who wish to enhance their own or even others’ CT. As part of my Ph.D., three large-scale experimental studies were conducted with the main results indicating that argument mapping (AM) can significantly facilitate memory performance beyond that of more traditional study methods and that the provision of AM-infused CT training can significantly enhance CT performance (Dwyer, 2011). the central claim, reasons, objections, and rebuttals) and the ‘arrows’ among propositions indicate the inferential relationships linking the propositions together (Dwyer, 2011 van Gelder, 2002). To clarify, an argument map is a visual representation of a logically structured network of reasoning, in which the argument is made unambiguous and explicit via a ‘box and arrow’ design, in which the boxes represent propositions (i.e. research-rather, it was The Evaluation of Argument Mapping as a Learning Tool that is, argument mapping’s effects on a series of educational outcomes, including memory and CT. However, perhaps something that I don’t mention enough within this blog is that CT wasn’t the primary focus of my Ph.D. As you may have figured out from the focus of my ongoing blog, my book and my previous research, critical thinking (CT) is my specialty area of research. ![]() ![]() This decision could influence other aspects of the handset and perhaps even facilitate a name change.įoldable display durability leaves a lot to be desired but there's no arguing that the tech is flashier than two separate slabs. ![]() What's more, we don't know if Microsoft is planning to simulate a dual-screen experience with software or take a more traditional route with its UI. Windows Central sources did not share specifications for the new foldable device. After the Surface Duo 2 launched in late 2021 to a lukewarm reception, however, Microsoft reportedly went back to the drawing board. Microsoft apparently had a dual-screen design lined up for what would have become the Surface Duo 3 due out at the end of 2023, complete with an edge-to-edge display, wireless charging and more. Sources familiar with the company's plans told Windows Central that after a year of experimenting and prototyping, Microsoft has decided to switch to a more traditional foldable display design with a 180-degree hinge and an external cover display. The story of Surface Duo will likely be that of a curiosity, not the revolutionary device I believe it could have been.In brief: Microsoft's next Surface Duo will not be a true dual-screen device like previous efforts, at least if the latest rumblings from the rumor mill prove accurate. It would be very hard for me to imagine a third option - one where Microsoft succeeds with Duo 3 and stands as real competition for the onslaught of more mature and more established foldables which are certainly coming. Microsoft either bet on the wrong horse and was too slow to realize it, or they lacked the fortitude to put their full weight behind the dual screen concept, halfheartedly trudging it forward only to quit halfway. I think there are two ways to look at this situation. The community has gone from a simmer-approaching-boil to a pot with the eye turned off. There hasn't been a new one in over a year and the next might still be months away. Moreover, that long delay has left users with little to be excited for in regard to Surface Duo. My Duo videos are also beginning to slip in their popularity with Pixel Fold and Z Fold videos picking up significantly. Who will hold off to wait for Duo 3? A recent poll I ran on my own channel, which was based largely on Surface Duo users indicates that many are prepared to jump ship in the near future. Pivoting so late in the game, effectively starting over at the 11th hour appears to be leading to a launch that will happen after all their now direct competitors have released their devices. When Duo launched there was only the Z Fold, but by the time Duo 3 arrives, the US will have seen launched by OnePlus and Google with Duo 3 likely last to the party. Perhaps an even bigger obstacle is the emergence of several new competitors into the folding phone space. There may be no way for Microsoft to carry their niche Duo fanbase along with them as they try to enter the mass market. How many of us will make the move to a Duo 3 that abandons the design we were attracted to in the first place?Īs Microsoft leaves behind two screens users may also feel like Microsoft is leaving them behind as they target the mass market with a more typical device. The first thing to consider is the effect it will have on those of us who already bought a Duo or Duo 2 *because* it was dual screens. What are the ramifications of making this call so late in the game? Obviously, time will tell, but we can speculate. This means that the decision to pivot towards a single folding OLED screen is as recent as 2021 or even 2022, depending on who you ask. ![]() Word is there was not only a nearly complete Duo 2 Go with dual screens, but also a Duo 3 concept which preserved the feature. What's worse is that the abandonment of the idea isn't even that distant. ![]() And yet, only a few years later the concept is fully in the rearview mirror. At one point Microsoft believed so fully in mobile dual monitors that they planned to launch a laptop style device Neo. Now, as it appears that Microsoft is abandoning the dual screen concept altogether with the Surface Duo 3 I am pondering the road taken and where it will lead. ![]() ![]() ![]() Core values include collaboration, openness, integrity, respect, dependability, and continuous improvementįlexible Job Type: Full-time, Part-time or Contract.Regular interdisciplinary events, team lunches, and annual parties.Click the checkbox next to the jobs that you are interested in.
